From personal experience, we recommend getting a passport. If you don't have one by October 19th, you won't be at our wedding. Jorge and Julieta, this warning doesn't concern you.
Your flight destination is Cancun, Mexico. Major airlines have direct and connecting flights to Cancun every day. The last step is to take a taxi or shuttle to the Gran Caribe Real Resort, which is a short distance from the airport.
Our wedding is Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. We arrive on Wednesday the 16th and depart the following Wednesday. You, of course, may arrive and leave at your leisure; there's no rigid schedule and all that's requested is your presence. Once you arive, there's nothing to do except enjoy the all-inclusive amenities with friends. So please, if you can make it, treat this as your vacation.
Our wedding is at two adjacent sister resorts: Gran Caribe Real Cancun and THE Royal Cancun, www.realresorts.com/Cancun-Resorts The resorts share a wall, and the wedding takes place on both properties. Don't stress on which one you choose--you'll be 100% involved either way. Friends and family have expressed desires to stay at either resort based on personal preference and whether they have kids. Our guess is that most guests will stay at the Gran Caribe Real.
The Gran Caribe Real is family friendly. It's also lower priced. On the other hand, THE Royal is for adults only--meaning you cannot book there if you're traveling with kids. Those staying at THE Royal may spend their time freely at either resort. The vast majority of festivities will be at the Gran Caribe so that everyone partakes. The Royal is simply an option for those who wish to enjoy some R&R in an adult setting. If you prefer the noise and festivities 24/7, then the Gran Caribe is the way to go. If you're desirous of some quiet R&R--THE Royal is there for you. If you have kids, some things never change.
You can book directly through the Real Resorts website: www.realresorts.com/Cancun-Resorts or you can use an online travel site. We booked on hotels.com because it has price matching until the wedding. Many of the travel websites have incentives and options to suit your needs.
The average resort price is $75 to $250 per person, per night. That covers the cost of everything--food, drinks, and entertainment. The only cost is airfare and hotel. The hotel price is dependent on how many persons are sharing each room. Price also varies according to the resort you choose, the room style selected, and the age of children. You'll get the picture when playing with options at booking websites.
Please don't book another hotel in Cancun because the wedding event is exclusive to resort guests of Real Resorts.
And please bring whatever you normally would on vacation: flippy floppies, rich tanning oil, Nora Roberts or Malcom Gladwell novels, swim trunks, service animals, diapers, and so forth. In addition, please bring your Sunday's best for our Saturday wedding: a cocktail dress or jacket and tie works just fine.
Gentlemen, we do realize that Homer Simpson pulls off the short sleeve shirt and tie. But the only person that can pull off that fashion faux pas is Detective Any Sipowicz from NYPD Blue--he's invited.
